As Public Affairs’ Director of Finance and Administration, this position provides both long-term leadership and immediate management guidance and oversight to the development and management of the department business functions, including administrative support, financial analysis, forecasting and budgetary planning for multiple funding sources, information technology and facility planning resources. As a member of the Public Affairs executive management team, the chosen individual is responsible for the formulation and execution of strategic fiscal planning and organizational fiscal policy. The Director will report to the Vice President for Public Affairs, and work collaboratively with all department heads and their primary administrators, the HRM, and other university colleagues in carrying out the following duties:

Responsible for overseeing the finances for Public Affairs, as well as developing, monitoring and analyzing a complex consolidated annual budget. Annual budget is approximately $11 million, with budget complexities such as revenue generation and restricted funds.
Internal consultant to department heads on all financial matters to include advising on proper account usage and strategy, assisting with problem solving, interpreting and applying financial and administrative policy. Oversee application of internal controls; prepare policy & procedure documentation related to financial matters.
Oversee Stanford Ticket Office staff and operations.
Oversee finance and administrative functions.
Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization and the day-to-day operations. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, professional development and accountable for the performance of employees.
Oversee Human Resources function, including performance management and salary setting.
May independently or in collaboration with human resources manager, guide supervisors in the interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs.
Develop and implement strategic plan(s) for functional area(s) managed; articulate vision and define goals and processes. May develop multi-year business plans. Oversee allocation of all resources.
Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with regulations, policies and procedures. Recommend and/or formulate internal administrative policies, guidelines and procedures. Direct process improvement for organization.
Represent the organization's business operations and administrative affairs within the organization, the university and/or outside constituencies. Represent the organization to external constituencies.

The qualified professional will have a Bachelor's degree, five years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience, along with an in-depth knowledge of sound accounting practices, fund accounting principles, direct and indirect cost methodologies, financial analysis, financial control, forecasting and reporting, and the design of financial models and systems. Additionally, requires strong financial expertise in budget planning and financial forecasting; expertise in databases, data extraction methods, report presentation and advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables and graphing; demonstrated ability to organize, analyze and present complex financial data clearly and accurately; demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills including conflict resolution; excellent planning, organizational, oral and written communication, negotiation, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills; strong expertise in business and management computer applications and databases; and proven knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.
