Vice President - Marketing - Phunware - Austin


Job description
Reports to: Chief Revenue Officer

Job Summary:
We have an immediate job opening for an exceptional Vice President of Marketing to lead our entire spectrum of corporate marketing. The marketing role will encompass responsibility for product marketing, brand building, demand generation, event marketing, communications, media, analyst and industry relations and corporate and product evangelism.
The successful candidate will have deep and long standing connections within the global digital ecosystem and will thrive in a hyper-growth entrepreneurial environment commensurate with the 4th fastest growing software company in the United States per the latest Inc. 500 report. The successful candidate will bring strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, creativity, insight and strong desire to roll up their sleeves and get things done with stakeholders of all types. He/she will bring relevant SaaS and start-up marketing experience, including an understanding of how young companies are financed throughout hyper-growth, passion for all forms of product and digital marketing and demonstrate a strong understanding of complex solutions sales processes with cross-functional teams and groups.
The candidate should easily build rapport with others at any level of an organization, comfortably deal with ambiguity and have a successful track record of partnering with sales and channel organizations to jointly achieve aggressive growth targets in both new and emerging markets.
The Vice President of Marketing will work with leaders across organizations, including sales, product management, creative, engineering, operations and finance to ensure that their programs are clearly defined, have appropriate milestones and remain on track to deliver the company’s strategic vision to achieve the company’s financial targets.
He/she will fully understand our product roadmap and develop, execute and evangelize compelling go-to-market plans both internally and externally as we expand our reach globally.
Additionally, he/she will proactively determine the appropriate multiscreen industry events for Phunware’s participation to ensure maximum penetration of our message throughout the multiscreen ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and quickly evolve into a multiscreen industry expert as this role is the primary contact with media and analysts and will frequently represent us at trade, market, analyst and industry events.
We are looking for individuals that are interested in a multi-year career at Phunware and not prone to moving from one company to another with any regularity. Additionally, the leader in this role should be very comfortable with “doing more with less” as this will initially be marketing team of two to three people with everyone on their team capable of – and very comfortable with – covering a variety of areas.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a clear brand story consistent with the CEO’s vision and evangelize that both internally and externally across multiple marketing vehicles and channels, including online, traditional advertising, social, mobile, event marketing and market, trade and industry publications.
Build and execute compelling go-to-market plans for our Multiscreen as a Service (MaaS) product offerings.
Own demand generation.
Expand database of prospect, suspect and qualified leads and constantly lead all mining efforts based on working experience with Salesforce CRM.
Lead all aspects of event marketing, making the company’s presence at trade, market and industry events a source of highly qualified lead volume and reinforce Phunware as a thought leader in multiscreen.
Define, monitor, report and own specific PR success metrics such as # of articles published, share of voice, audience penetration, message inclusion, social media impact and others.
Build and execute an editorial outreach calendar and a yearly awards-win program, including product, corporate and growth recognition from Tier One sources such as Inc., Forbes, Wall Street Journal and similar peers.
Continually improve upon all sales enablement tools, including, but not limited to, sales presentations and proposals.
Drive innovation and improvement for all Phunware digital properties through thorough knowledge of digital needs and emerging trends.
Attend sales meetings, industry trade shows and training seminars to stay abreast of the latest in multiscreen technologies and developments and consistently promote our brand, products and product roadmap.
Consume industry, market and analyst research daily and position Phunware at the top of mind of all key influencers in the global multiscreen ecosystem.
Own all competitive and market intelligence. Become and act as the most knowledgeable employee at Phunware for all industry, market and analyst information, including all competitive information by vertical segment, product type and company type.
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications:
Must be living in the Austin, TX, area or willing to immediately relocate.
10+ years relevant experience
5+ year experience in SaaS and start-up specific marketing with a strong focus on digital, social and mobile; connected device, application and platform marketing experience a strong plus.
Passion for multiscreen products and technologies with experience bringing technical, category-defining products to market.
Consistent track record of partnering with sales and channels and effectively meeting / exceeding quarterly and annual sales objective; prior sales experience and having carried a bag and quota is a plus.
Expertise in the design and execution of demand models that forecast and measure all activities and metrics from eyeball / contact all the way through to transaction / revenue.
Knowledge of lead reporting and analysis of sequential and annual performance trends, as well as identification of continued opportunity for site and sales improvement.
Expert story teller able to articulate a compelling brand proposition and message it across all appropriate media vehicles; experience leading PR internally or via third party agency is a plus.
Comfortable holding both internal and external stakeholders accountable at multiple grade levels.
Experience with inbound marketing automation tools such as HubSpot, Eloqua and Marketo.
Experience with Salesforce CRM.
Strong analytical, organizational, evangelical and interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel as needed.
Desirable:
MBA or Master’s Degree.
Advertising or Digital Agency experience.
Experience with multiscreen applications, multiscreen software and multiscreen marketing.
Creative mindset to drive high impact and high visibility with minimum spend.
