Director - Inventory - United Stationers - Chicago


Job description

Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for: 1) implementing inventory management policy; 2) developing departmental and cross-functional processes. Additionally the position will manage inventory management sub-processes which support: 1) key customers; 2) supply chain optimization and will provide day to day oversight of inventory management systems.

Major Responsibilities

Executes the strategic concepts for setting inventory strategy, policy, and merchandise planning; Oversees the successful implementation of all processes used to achieve key metrics.
Directs the planning, buying, and maintenance of adequate stock and special order inventory to maximize sales while achieving margin, inventory and turn goals.
Oversees the analysis of inventory data for purpose of maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
Establishes and maintains on-going relationships with key suppliers to maximize inventory performance.
Interfaces and partners with Category Management, Product Management, Logistics and Suppliers as needed.
Manages people, processes, budgets, performance management, compliance activities, and associate development as required by the job.
Understands and demonstrates United Stationers’ Core Values.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of core inventory management principles
Strong analytical skills
Demonstrated experience with automated forecasting and replenishment tools.
Ability to lead Associates to achieve their assigned inventory management goals.
Manhattan DPR – Advanced skills. Experience with replenishment tools; Core demand planning and replenishment system (forecasting/PO’s).
Intermediate/Advanced skills with MS Office suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required, with a focus on Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
10-15 years of relevant experience
