Job description
Samsung Semiconductor has established a Strategy and Open Innovation Center (SSIC) in Silicon Valley, to drive long term strategy and to tap into the culture of innovation in Silicon Valley. As a part of this initiative, the SSIC is building a Data Center Platform Development team to develop innovative solutions for Samsung’s technology platform in compute, storage & networking for the data center of the future.

Director of Datacenter System Engineering is responsible for all of the engineering disciplines for the development of server systems. This covers the full product lifecycle, from specification, design, verification, to validation of a complete system. Responsibilities include the system and module design, the specification and selection of components including x86- and ARM-based SoC and system ASICs, the development of firmware and modification of BIOS, and incorporation of design requirements such as power, thermal, and signal integrity.

Structure the system engineering organization with clear roles and responsibilities, while hold individuals accountable for their commitment and quality. Hire, mentor, and grow organization from ground up. Lead and motivate while earn trust and respect.
Ensure timely project execution and deliver high quality products. Plan, monitor, and act. As a part of planning, identify project risks and provide mitigation plans. Communicate progress regularly and expose issues early.
This position requires the ability to work with and partner with a variety of teams, both internal and external. Inside Samsung, this includes teams such as Architecture, System LSI, Software, and others. Externally, interacts with vendors, IP provides, service providers, and others.
Desired Skills and Experience
Strong technical knowledge in system design with hands on development. Direct experience in developing compute, network or storage systems, with proven track record in delivering competitive products on time.
Must have involved in firmware and/or BIOS development.
Demonstrated team leadership, people and organization development. Experience in building and managing a development team in a multi-cultural, multi-site environment.
Strong engineering management skills with a track record of successfully leading complex development projects. Good in project risk analysis and mitigation planning, large picture awareness, deep technical vision, and aggressive problem solving capabilities.
Strong presentation skills, customer interface skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Drive and self-confidence to excel in a high impact, highly dynamic and geographically dispersed team environment.
