Sony Electronics has a current opening for an Applied Research Engineering Project Manager in our U.S. Research Center located in San Jose, CA. The project manager will lead and control the activities related to research and development of algorithms and architectures using the latest network algorithms and topology for optimal AV streaming over 2.4 GHz wireless for Consumer Electronics devices and various sensors network. Responsibilities include leading the research & design of middleware and device drivers for a device supporting multiple radio protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, etc as well as MEMS sensor technology. You will work closely with the Japan team and outside vendors to identify features requirements, designing product architecture, and evolving the underlying software framework. You will be responsible for the investigation and utilization of complex engineering and mathematical principles to develop core technologies, algorithm and framework structures, and finding solutions to problems. Additionally, you will manage analysis and determine system standards and test procedures, and be responsible for reviewing invention disclosures for developed algorithms and designs, working with Patent Attorneys to secure Intellectual Property for Sony.
* Must have 5 to 7 years of embedded system development experience in computer network, sensors and system level design
* Must have 3 years experience in project lead or manager role
* Previous engineering experiences with PowerPC, Arm, or MIPS are also required
* Previous development experiences in ZigBee, Z-Wave, other networking protocol and topology are required
* Previous engineering experiences with device driver and firmware are strongly preferred
* Excellent programming experience with C/C++, Linux are required. Experience with Android SDK is a plus
* Familiarity with standard software development tools including: GNU, GDB, Visual Studio, and others
* Previous research work in computer networking related areas is strongly preferred
* Understanding of Computer Architecture and optimization are a plus
* The ability to review project objectives and translate them into detailed tasks to be executed on by members, as well as the ability to track tasks from conception to implementation is required
* Superb communication skills (both written and verbal)
* Experience working within software development lifecycle
* Ability to read, write and speak in Japanese is a strong plus
* Must be able to travel domestically and internationally if needed
