Job description
The Director of Benefits will provide leadership in the design, implementation, communication, administration and compliance of all employee health/welfare benefits, LOA/disability, retirement, wellness and educational assistance/scholarship programs; includes developing efficient and effective programs that fit both teammate needs and strategic needs of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Provide leadership, pro-active planning and skilled administration to overall design, implementation, communication, and administration activities of the company’s benefits programs.

Partner with internal and external partners to provide strategic input on overall direction of H/W and wellness programs using expertise and working knowledge claims analysis, utilization mix dynamics, in benefits accounting, rates/pricing, network discounting, accruals, budget setting, etc.


Provide leadership and support in day to day operations. Operate as a “working director”, who is involved in all levels of detail of the function in order to effectively manage and lead, as well as provide process improvement guidance and team leadership.

Apply strategic planning skills to assess, design, and refine the strategy process for benefits in an environment of major healthcare reform.

Oversee and partner with outsourced third party vendor relationships providing health/welfare, wellness incentives and other services.

Oversee, develop and mentor teams to create best practices and create positive work environment; ensure professional growth opportunities and succession planning.

Provide marketing minded direction for benefit programs; oversee design and communicate programs to increase perceived value and ensure appropriate understanding by teammates.

Stay current and in touch with industry trends developing concepts, practices, and procedures in the benefits and wellness fields.

Use working knowledge of HRIS to improve data accuracy, QA processes, identify trends, drive change and assess administrative effectiveness.

Ensure through audits, reports and personal contacts that benefits programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations.

Interact effectively at all levels of the company includes ability to present with high level of confidence, strong executive presence and communication acumen.

Manage the acquisition, merger, integration, and divestiture activities as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, include computer skills as required.

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required; MBA or benefit professional certification preferred (CEBS, CBP, or other)

Minimum 5 years experience in an employee benefits / wellness department of a large and/or complex organization in a managerial capacity required

Experience administering all aspects of employee benefits programs including health, wellness, disability, retirement, FMLA, etc.

Demonstrated experience managing an HRIS and Payroll system

Career track of progressive and increasingly complex leadership roles in H/W benefits environment.

Working knowledge and expertise in a variety of health plans / health insurance options a strong plus.
