The Director, Email Marketing is responsible for developing, implementing and advancing the communication strategies, campaigns and capabilities of our email marketing program to meet our customer acquisition, retention and customer lifetime value initiatives. The Director of Email Marketing’s mission is to bring email best practices to our core segments through deep channel expertise and data-driven execution knowledge in support of our growing subscription business. The ideal candidate will be someone skilled at driving a vision for email, reaching out across the business to develop relationships that enable success, and working proactively and creatively around challenges.
Vision: Define key metrics and goals for email marketing; lead efforts to meet and exceed deliverables, and drive continuous process improvement. Ensure the development, ongoing improvement, and deployment of best practices around email including understanding of what days, times and other elements will optimize the performance of campaigns. Uncover untapped business opportunities through analysis of customer data.
Drive Results: Manage development, hypotheses and execution of email testing program, providing takeaways and recommendations to continually improve. Report on and analyze campaigns against KPIs (conversion rates, customer lifetime value, profitability,
etc.) and recommend best practices, A/B testing, identify new trends in email, etc.
Thought Leadership: Brings knowledge from prior experience and keeps a pulse on
industry trends, and share these insights with the team to benefit the NYT business. Continuously think of new and out-of- the-box ways to improve our programs to drive
business results. Develop POVs and proposals for new communication initiatives across email and CRM. Recommends vendors / tools to consider and leads evaluation process.
Collaboration: Collaborate with Digital Marketers to devise appropriate cross-channel efforts and communication streams meeting customer acquisition and retention goals.
Management: Manage a team of marketers, producers and operations team members to deliver best in class campaigns. Provide leadership to direct reports, proactively developing team members within the organization and setting up opportunities for success.
Qualifications:
Experience in either Agency or client side role
Direct marketing experience is critical in this role
Excellent communication skills with colleagues of all levels
Comfortable with interpreting data and research results
Flexible and nimble to think around tough business problems
Able to build strong, trusting relationships with clients and colleagues
Organized and efficient and the ability to respond well under tight timelines and pressure.
