Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Planning (CS&P), this role will be responsible for leading the development, assessment and implementation of our corporate strategy and planning process. They will participate in the analysis and assessment of key ongoing corporate strategy questions such investments, new TA’s, new technologies, corporate development strategy, among others.

Essential Duties and Job Functions
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Forming strong partnerships with Finance, Corporate Development, R&D and TA Strategy to facilitate the development of a successful corporate strategy, up to and including cross TA challenges and opportunities.
Providing strategic thinking and analytical support (identification of unmet medical needs, assessment of differentiating attributes, development of forecasts, market research, competitive intelligence) to allow for identification of new TA opportunities for Gilead.
Lead the development and implementation of the annual planning calendar including the portfolio process and consolidation of the long range outlook for the company. This would include assessment of the implications of the key decisions and insights generated.
Work closely with Research Strategy to assess and develop recommendations for pursuit of new technologies and platforms.
Working closely with the R&D Therapeutic Area Heads, TA Strategy and Corporate Development in development of our outreach strategy and in reviewing and analyzing partnering opportunities as part of portfolio growth strategy, and evaluating products for in-licensing.
Lead by example, respecting Gilead core values of integrity, teamwork, accountability and excellence.
Manage up to 3 direct reports in CS&P.

The ideal candidate needs to have strong leadership skills, the ability to drive results and be able to influence leaders across different functions:
Advanced degree required (M.S. or Ph.D in Life Sciences, M.D or M.B.A.)
Consulting, venture capital, investment banking experience required
15+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry which may include experience in global product strategic planning, corporate strategy, corporate development, tactical marketing, commercial policies and practices, new product planning, portfolio management and lifecycle management
Experience developing and using market research to gain insights into markets and to build forecasts
Demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and implement multi-dimensional strategic and corporate plans
Demonstrated excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities
Demonstrated ability to lead a matrix team; coordinate and manage pan-regional teams
Demonstrated ability developing long-term pharma/biotech corporate strategy
