SNEI seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Director, Payroll. The position will be responsible for establishing, and managing, payroll and benefits services within a growing and dynamic company. This is a hands-on individual who will work closely with Finance and Human Resources management to deliver the highest standard of payroll services and assist with the company’s accounts function, supporting operations across multiple sites San Mateo, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. The position may require occasional travel within the USA.
The Director, Payroll will contribute to all aspects of the day-to-day accounting operations, including semi-monthly payrolls and month-end close responsibilities. The position requires a positive attitude, tremendous initiative, and the ability to deliver exceptional service to our internal employees.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the payroll administration function and end to end processing of company payroll.
Support the payroll project with ADP
Maintain and update employee records on the payroll system by reviewing and entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, deductions, titles, departmental transfers, and payroll related corrections.
Maintain vacation, leave, sickness and overtime reports, as well as calculating and processing of termination payments, salary increases and back pays.
Understanding and following payroll procedures and payroll related forms.
Responsible for preparing payroll related reports for managers and reconciling payroll related GL accounts.
Assist with month-end and year-end processes, such as annual payroll tax and payment summary reconciliations.
Assist with communication and processing of workers compensation claims and employment verifications.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; advising management on needed actions.
Respond to payroll queries from employees. Resolves payroll discrepancies by investigating the issue.
Provide assistance to Accounts Payable, including processing expense reimbursements, creditor payments, investigating discrepancies, and data input.
Provide administrative support to the Finance functions and data analysis using Excel.
Provide technical support and advice regarding the company’s current payroll systems and ensuring proper maintenance and availability of the systems.
Work closely with Human Resources to ensure that payroll practices are aligned with employment and benefits practices.
Partner with ADP to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax reporting and compliance with state and federal regulations within the U.S.
Assist with annual 401K and Workers Compensation Audits

10+ years of experience managing a multi-state payroll operation of 1000+ employees
Experience of Workday and ADP essential.
Comprehensive knowledge of payroll system
Demonstrated payroll processing experience
Knowledge of federal, state and local tax and labor laws
Experience completing monthly general ledger account reconciliations
Hands-on project management skills and meticulous attention to detail
Excellent customer service, oral and written communication, and diplomacy
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting or finance related discipline.
Experience of Concur travel & expense processes desirable.
Experience of SAP desirable.
Excellent PC skills with Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Experience working across a global business within multi-cultural working environment.
Experience working within a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
Demonstrates high level of initiative and ability to meet deadlines
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
