Director - Product Management - Polaris Wireless - San Francisco
Job description
Polaris Wireless is looking for a seasoned Product Manager with demonstrated success in enterprise application product development and management. Primary customers are sophisticated government intelligence agencies. The individual must have a good understanding in data mining and data analytics fields of large datasets preferably including geo-spatial data. The individual must have a passion for developing products with rich user interfaces that blend seamlessly with customers work flows. The individual must possess technical expertise, project management experience and a strong knowledge of the sales, engineering, agile software development and support processes. Creativity is key requirement as many times the customer looks to Polaris to provide solutions to their problems.
This position is strongly cross-functional in nature, requiring strong working relationships with multiple teams, including Sales, Marketing, Research, Engineering, and Operations. In addition to internal constituents, you will also work with customers, prospects, and partners to understand the market requirements and to support the business. The work with customers is often quite consultative in nature, and therefore a strong problem solving orientation is critical, and past professional services or consulting experience would be very valuable in this Position.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Create and manage the overall Product Management process for applications
Deliver a complete product to the market (software, hardware, services, documentation, sales tools)
Perform product demonstrations and product technical presentations
Perform analysis for build/buy/partner decisions
Manage all 3rd party technology product vendors and contracts
Gather and analyze feedback from customer, sales, marketing, development and the market
Lead our internal process to define the product strategy, roadmap and priorities
Serve as the customer representative in planning and requirements definition
Develop requirements documents and use cases for new product features
Monitor the status of agile development projects supporting new features
Conduct business-level verification and market testing of new features
Become an expert on competitive products in the marketplace
Be a go-to person and strategic leader for the product within the company

Qualifications
The individual must be highly entrepreneurial and a strategic thinker who can solve today issues in a young company as well as build processes for growth to a large company infrastructure. The individual will need to be hands-on and work closely with all levels in the company, including senior management. The individual needs to have:

Ability to cover whatever gaps that may exist in the process to get the product shipped
Proactive in identifying problems early and to prioritize deliverables
Able to very effectively work with remote teams
Good combination of technical and business background
Effectively communicate with engineers and executives
Demonstrated success in defining and launching excellent products
Self motivated, smart and quick to learn
Interest in, and focus on, customers and passionate about creating good user experiences
Willing to travel, locally and internationally. Likely 20-30%
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good knowledge of agile software development processes
Education and Experience
The Polaris enterprise application has a GIS and data visualization frontend with a backend operating on TB to PB data workloads.
MSEE/MSCS. MBA is a plus
7+ years in developing software based enterprise products
4+ years in managing software based enterprise products with a rich UI
2+ years in project management of agile software development
Technical background in data mining and/or predictive analytics products
Technical background in commercial relational databases and/or big data technologies
Technical background in public communication networks (e.g. wireless, IP)
Technical/business background in surveillance/intelligence fields (e.g. financial fraud)
Background in GIS is a big plus
