Operations Engineer - Linux
Nokia is seeking a Senior Engineer for a worldwide Network Operations team located in Itasca, IL (outside of Chicago). This team installs and operates systems in data centers around the world. Millions of mobile phone users worldwide utilize our systems to access email, social networking sites, and view their favorite videos.

Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership for daily operation of data centers, system expansion, upgrades, problem resolution
• Responsible for identifying and advocating best current practices in data center operations
• Hands on involvement in creating and executing standard operating procedures
• Ensuring we achieve service quality and system availability targets (SLA)
• Technical input for planning, budgeting, and implementation for data center acquisition and expansion
• Working with a geographically distributed team with ability to provide technical mentoring team members
• Hands on, personal involvement in day to day operations activities
Skills
Requirements:
• Minimum of 5+ years of network design, implementation, and support in a management role
• Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with network equipment (firewalls, load balancers, routers, switches) and servers operating in a Unix environment (preferably Solaris and Linux), or comparable experience operating telecom systems
• In-depth familiarity with Cisco IOS and CatOS, and general routing and switching technologies.
• Strong scripting skills with an emphasis in Perl, awk, sed, and bash.
• Experience with F5 Networks LTM equipment and creating/maintaining iRules.
• Experience operating high availability systems
• Practical knowledge of datacenter best practices, policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability and creativity in proposing, planning, implementing, testing, and monitoring data center solutions
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and perform well under pressure
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, oral and in writing
• B.S. Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Travel up to 20% may be required
