Working with a diverse and committed group of NPR, public radio station and public radio system professionals develop and implement a policy, regulatory and legislative portfolio that addresses the specific needs of the public radio community and public broadcasting generally.

Identify a portfolio of policy sectors that will influence the success of public radio’s future and develop positions in each arena to address public radio needs and strengths.
Develop and implement a comprehensive appropriations strategy that brings new resources and attention to the public service mission of public radio and the financial resources necessary to accomplish that mission.
Lead and implement activities to enable strong congressional support for annual federal appropriations.
Build upon and improve existing community engagement projects that will enhance public radio’s ability to sustain and increase federal funding.
Support policy objectives identified as priorities by NPR, member stations and other entities within the pubic radio system.
Create development plan for enhancing public radio’s advocacy capacity to bring more support from community organizations and audience groups.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
Ten+ years of public policy development and lobbying experience.
Strong communication skills. Highly articulate, with strong presentation and writing abilities.
Excellent networking and relationship-building abilities.
Familiarity with federal appropriations and budget processes.
Success in developing and administering collaborative community engagement plans.
Institutional/system knowledge of broadcasting, media, telecommunications and digital content platforms a plus.
Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently.
Appreciation for and understanding of public radio’s role and mission.
Undergraduate degree required. Law degree a plus.
