Director - Global PMO - American Express - New York


Job description
The Director of Global PMO will report into the Global Corporate Payments (GCP) Transformation Office (under Global Product Development & Operations), which has responsibility for ensuring successful execution against an aggressive change agenda that involves increased investment in core capabilities, products, and processes to ultimately improve financial performance of the portfolio. Key components of the Transformation Office (TO) are effective investment optimization, portfolio management/PMO, measurements, governance, and Change Management for Global Corporate Payments.


The Global PMO team will have primary responsibility for tracking of all GCP investments and initiatives, identification and management of dependencies across the portfolio, risk and issue mitigation, benefits tracking, and communication of progress against plans. The Directory will partner closely with the broader Global Product Development & Operations team, as well as with the larger GCP organization.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and execute overall PMO framework to encompass all GCP initiatives, including governance model, communication/ reporting practices, escalation protocols, etc.

• Drive portfolio-level execution, including escalation of issues, identifying and mitigating risks, managing dependencies, and driving key decisions (i.e. influencing prioritization/sequencing, etc.)

• Track and analyze program milestones, results, and financials (i.e. run-rates, actuals vs. planned cost, performance against key business metrics)

• Provide support to project teams to resolve funding, prioritization, and/or other execution issues

• Develop deep knowledge of GCP business strategy in order to support critical governance discussions and drive decisions/requirements

• Communicate status of key initiatives and/or issues/risks to senior leadership for highly visible issues

• Partner with communications team to ensure an effective communication plan for future roadmaps and progress against objectives

• Work across GPD&O to proactively engage in long-range planning and roadmap discussions

• Ability to function well in a matrixed environment and influence without direct authority is key

• Must show very strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present thoughtful and insightful results to various levels in the organization

• Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and meet tight deadlines, take initiative and act decisively

• Demonstrated project and program management expertise required

Education

• A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years in project or program management is required

Preferred Additional

•A background in corporate and/or mid market payments is a strong plus; knowledge of American Express Technologies practices and processes is helpful
