Job Description
The role of the Senior Research Analyst is to support the research and analytic needs of consulting teams, and help to build capabilities for analyzing U.S. and Canadian regional competitiveness (state, metro, city). This individual is critical to the team’s goal of providing cutting-edge perspectives on the U.S. business and economic environment. The position is located in McKinsey's North American Knowledge Center in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Detailed Description:
* Thought-partner with consultants and support their research needs to address complex problems across private industry, public and social sectors. Outputs will include PowerPoint documents, research memos, Excel models and oral presentations.
* Collaborate with colleagues to build quantitative and qualitative analytic capabilities to address a wide range of business problems including regional competitiveness and firmographics for B2B market planning.
* Support internal research initiatives undertaken by McKinsey industry and functional practices
* Share specialized knowledge and expertise with colleagues through training, coaching and written documents

Background/Training: Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics, or other discipline with significant quantitative analysis component; advanced degree in related discipline is preferred
* 3-5 years of relevant experience in a research setting (public or private sector)
* A solid foundation in business and economic research with a broad range of topics is required; more in-depth knowledge in one or two areas is helpful
* Familiarity with the full range of government economic and demographic data as well as other sources of business/economic data and analysis
* Experience in regional economic development or metropolitan policy and analysis are preferred
* Statistical software expertise preferred, e.g., MATLAB, SPSS, SAS, STATA
