MZ is looking for a highly technical, hands on Director of Engineering to join our Data Platform Team. You will drive technical projects and provide leadership for a group of engineers in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
What you'll be doing
Provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
Assign areas of ownership, and ensure engineers have clear priorities and adequate resources
Drive innovation and manage complex technical projects
Maintain high morale and motivate engineers to go above and beyond
Participate in architecture discussions and planning with Product Management and other stakeholders to deliver software that meets customer needs
Communicate status, risks, and offer mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery of all committed projects to cross functional teams and high-level management
Hire and develop top talent
Your background and who are you
5+ years of hands-on leadership in fast-paced and dynamic environment
Experience in managing complex projects that require a deep understanding of the application logic and dependencies
Strong technical skills in Object-Oriented Programming, database and full-stack development
Experience in Java and frameworks such as Hibernate, Spring, React/Redux
Experience with modern frameworks used in the industry: Kafka, Hive, Druid, Hadoop
Experience working with Big Data with a focus on stream processing techniques
Establish credibility with smart engineers quickly
Ability to motivate people, instill accountability and achieve results
Strong verbal and written communication skills, impeccable organizational and time management skills
Experience in short release cycles, the full software lifecycle, and have worked on products that were released for public consumption
Bachelor's degree in CS or EE preferred
Bonus points
Experience in agile development methodologies such as scrum
Passion for engineering productivity and service ownership
Experience balancing live product management, feature delivery, and retirement of tech debt
Prior development or management experience with big data or ad tech platforms
