Director - Quality Engineering - Semiconductors - BAE Systems - Milpitas


Job description
Develop and lead an organization which provides focused quality engineering support on new product development design assurance.

Interface with all other quality and engineering components within the company and with customers and suppliers on quality related issues.

Lead or participate in the implementation of new product design (NPD) design assurance: Risk management (per ISO 14971), User and Design FMEAs, requirements traceability matrices, design verification and validation, Design Change Analysis Forms, etc.

Utilize statistical analysis and modeling techniques to determine product acceptance. Lead or participate in core team meetings, CCB, and MRB meetings.


Interface and manage work with other quality organizations such as manufacturing/ops requirements applying thorough understanding of design controls and statistical process control.

Participate in design reviews, design transfers, and in all aspects of the Design Control process for imaging products. Ensure customer requirements are met by incorporating engineering principles in robust design and in design for manufacturability.

Design, develop, refine, and validate test methods and inspection procedures, covering both vendor and customer production and quality processes. Guide/author design verification and design validation protocols and reports. Fully support the Quality Policy by building quality into all aspects of work and by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements. Identify and implement effective process control systems to support the development, qualification and on-going manufacturing of products to meet or exceed internal and external requirements. Lead and participate in product failure investigations and root cause analysis. Provide technical guidance and training to team members in statistical analysis techniques, experimental design and other QA Engineering areas of expertise. The domain of this job includes semi-conductor processing, packaging, chip test, chip qualification, software products, customer applications which include cameras and medical imaging sensors.

Interface with agents of regulatory bodies as necessary to demonstrate quality system compliance. Support certification/recertification activities for US, European and other markets. Provide project direction, coaching and mentoring for engineering and technical team personnel. Design assurance drives the ISO14971 risk management process and the Verification & Validation (V&V) process.

Desired Skills and Experience

Master's Degree in Engineering

8 to 12 years experience in R&D, product transfer, or manufacturing troubleshooting

Must have proficiency and formal training with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) including risk analysis,
risk evaluation, and risk control Experience and formal training in SPC, DOE, ANOVA, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies

Experience with PLM (or equivalent documentation software)

Formal training or experience with material properties, especially semiconductors

Proven ability to create novel solutions to technical problems within product development

Experience managing projects or participating in product development teams

Ability to lead team members from diverse departments and resolve conflicts to arrive at a solution

Ability to succinctly write technical documents for engineers from diverse disciplines and experience with
internal and external Quality Assurance audits.

Design experience in either digital circuitry or systems desired.

Knowledge of the following is required:

- Verilog and system Verilog

- Formal verification, STA, and place and route

- Virtuoso Analog design environment and the Skill programming language

- Mixed mode and SPICE simulations and semiconductor process and device simulation tools (SUPREME and PISCES).

- Board design, processing, assembly, component selection, signal integrity knowledge, and software
development process also are needed, Knowledge of Matlab, C, C++,and Perl programming languages and associated software development IDE.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with opto-electronics would be a benefit.
